PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

An overview of the ongoing nationwide investigation that has already identified over 100 live child victims in the US. The investigation is joint effort of U.S. Customs Service, state and local law enforcement.

PRESENTERS BIO

Sergeant Mike Casida has been a member of the Clovis Police Department for 14 years. His previous assignments include Patrol, Investigations, SWAT and Field Training. Mike has an extensive background in computers dating back to the early 80’s. His computer forensic training includes DOJ, NW3C, SEARCH and various other courses around the country. He has been a member of the Silicon Valley Chapter of HTCIA since 2000. Mike started the Clovis PD High Tech Crimes Unit in 1999 and currently oversees the group. Mike was brought in to help with the Operation Hamlet investigation approximately 2 weeks after it began in early 2002 and has been actively involved since then. His primary focus has been the identification and apprehension of suspects located in other states and countries.Sgt. Jones is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute sponsored by the California P.O.S.T. program and Cal State University at Long Beach, CA. Sgt Jones is also a graduate of Grossmont College.

Detective Stephanie Guerra has been with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department since 1988. She has worked in the jails, patrol, accident investigation and as a school resource officer. She spent four years as a Child Abuse investigator and has been with the San Diego ICAC since October 2001.

Prior to being hired by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, for five years, she spent her free time as a reserve officer for the San Diego Police Department.

As a Child Abuse investigator, she provided training to patrol personnel as first responders to child abuse crimes. As a member of ICAC, she has given training to community groups regarding how to keep children safe on line.

She is a member of the High Tech Crimes Investigators Association.

She is the lead case agent in San Diego for Operation Hamlet, an international investigation of child molestation and child pornography. She has been involved in this case since it first was brought to the attention of ICAC in January 2002 and has continued working on it with other law enforcement and prosecutors in the United States and Europe.

Jeffrey Dort has been a Deputy District Attorney for thirteen years and prosecutes for the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, Family Protection Division. He did his undergraduate education in the area of History and American Studies at Stanford University, later received his EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) license, and followed up with Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University.

Jeffrey has prosecuted 80 plus jury trials and is currently prosecuting child sexual abuse, child physical abuse, child abuse homicides, domestic violence felonies, and homicides. Currently, Jeffrey is the lead prosecutor for ICAC. – the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and a Team Leader in the Family Protection Division in his office. Jeffrey is happily married to another Deputy DA in the San Diego office, and tries to keep up with his two boys, ages 3 and 5.

He also teaches for various organizations including the California District Attorney’s Association, San Diego Police Department, Miramar College Police Academy, the California Medical Training Center, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, American Prosecutor’s Research Institute and has been invited to speak to audiences in 15 states. He has been named to the Legal Committee advising the National Board of Directors for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
