PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
Wireless networking is fast becoming a major technology employed by
end-users in the home environment. This module will cover two main areas of
wireless networking. First, there will be an introduction to WiFi networking
for the home environment. Second, the security aspects of wireless
networking are covered. War-driving with a demonstration to illustrate
problems that WiFi technology can cause investigators.
PRESENTER BIO
Mr. James
Jolley is a Computer Training Specialist in the Training Services department
of SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics,
where he performs a variety of tasks related to the provision of training to
local, state and federal agencies on computer technology issues with
criminal justice applications. He also researches techniques for online
investigations, assists in preparing material for the computer training
courses, assists with computer forensic examinations and maintains the
computer network and equipment of SEARCH’s National Criminal Justice
Computer Laboratory and Training Center in Sacramento, California.
Before joining SEARCH in 2002, Mr. Jolley served as a Consultant for CHG,
LLC. In this capacity, he installed and configured computer programs such as
intrusion detection systems and network scanning tools for automated
security systems. He was also a Network Security Analyst with SBC, where he
configured and managed firewalls, monitored Internet intrusion activity,
supported customer access to firewall data, provided customer support for
all security services, performed network scans of customer sites and
installed IDS systems. Mr. Jolley was also a Supervisor and Senior Security
Analyst for Chevron.
Mr. Jolley holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University
of San Francisco, and has completed graduate course work in Quantitative
Business Methods at California State University, Hayward. He is a member of
both the Information System Security Association and the High Tech Crime
Investigation Association. He has several certifications, credentials and
licenses, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional,
Microsoft Certified Professional, Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco
Certified Design Associate, CheckPoint Certified System Administrator and
CheckPoint Certified System Engineer. He has also received extensive
training on computer crime investigation, forensic computer science,
Microsoft, Cisco, CheckPoint and Sun Java.
