2421: Knoppix, Level 1 Lab

Thursday, June 24, 2004
1:00pm – 2:30pm
Presenter: Special Agent Waters

PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

The Knoppix Level 1 course is designed to provide investigators with exposure to a free software tool for preview / searching computers on scene. The lab presents hands-on exposure to a bootable CD allowing the first responder/probation agent to safely preview suspect computers. It is geared to address the basic needs of the on-scene investigator while trying not to overwhelm with detail.

"KNOPPIX is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it." - knopper.net
