PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

This module will cover where Internet residue can be found in the Windows operating system. Focus is primarily on Netscape and Internet Explorer to include discussion of cache viewers. The attendees will create Internet residue, locate this residue, and will use tools that allow them to view Internet residue.

PRESENTER BIO
Mr. Christopher Sanft is a Computer Training Specialist in the Training Services department of SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, where he coordinates and provides training on computer technology issues with criminal justice applications to local, state, and federal justice agencies. The training is provided at SEARCH’s National Criminal Justice Computer Laboratory and Training Center in Sacramento, California, as well as at other sites nationwide.

Before joining SEARCH in 2000, Mr. Sanft was a Computer Crime Specialist at the Training and Research Institute of the National White Collar Crime Center (NWCCC) in Richmond, Virginia. He provided technical assistance and training to criminal justice agencies nationwide in the area of computer and high-technology crime. Mr. Sanft has trained state and local enforcement agencies in methods of investigating computer crime, advanced forensics and online investigations. He has also assisted local, state and federal agencies in the processing of computers as evidence.

Before joining NWCCC, Mr. Sanft spent more than five years as a Financial Investigator with the Hennepin County, Minnesota, Sheriff’s Office. He investigated white-collar crime, the financial aspects of arson and computer crime and also worked with narcotics forfeitures. Mr. Sanft has taught a number of Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board-certified courses to law enforcement personnel, and has participated in more than 30 search warrants involving computer evidence. Mr. Sanft was also employed by the Minnesota Department of Revenue where he was involved with the taxation of persons who dealt in controlled substances or other illegal income.

Mr. Sanft has degrees in Business Administration and Criminal Justice. He was a founding member and President of the Midwest Electronic Crime Investigators Association for six years, and is a member of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association, Forensic Association of Computer Technologists and International Association of Arson Investigators. Mr. Sanft is a Certified Fraud Examiner.
