PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
Identification and Seizure of Devices That Store Digital Evidence: Anyone
who takes the class will learn about different types of devices that could
store digital evidence relevant in a criminal investigation and how to
safely collect, transport, and store them for future examination.
PRESENTERS BIO
John McMullen is a Lieutenant in the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s
Bureau of Investigation. He has been a law enforcement officer for 24 years
and been involved in the investigation of high technology crime for over ten
years. His current assignment includes management of the District Attorney’s
High Technology Crime Unit. He is also been the Operations Manager for the
multi-jurisdictional Silicon Valley Computer Forensic Laboratory since it’s
inception and serves as the current Treasurer for the Silicon Valley Chapter
of the High Technology Crime Investigators Association.
Jim Sibley leads the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office High Tech
Crimes Unit, acts as project director for the REACT task force, and is the
legal liaison for the Silicon Valley Computer Forensic Lab. A prosecutor for
over thirteen years, Jim serves on the California District Attorney’s
Association’s High Technology Crime Committee, and is the designated CDAA
representative to the Governor’s High Technology Crimes Advisory Counsel.
Over the last six years, Jim has prosecuted technology crimes including
online child solicitation, network intrusion, trade secret theft, piracy of
software, movies, and audio recordings, as well as component theft,
cyberstalking, and identify theft. An active HTCIA member since 2001, Jim
teaches extensively, volunteering as an instructor for HTCIA, CDAA, NDAA,
and POST, as well as presenting Internet safety lectures for community
organizations, parent/teacher groups, and schoolchildren.
