2315: Installing and Running a WEB and FTP Server Lab

PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

Web and FTP servers are commonly used in the distribution of illicit and illegal material. These servers can be easy to configure and operate from a business or residence using common Internet connections. During this module, attendees will install and configure freeware Web and FTP servers. Attendees will then use these configurations to post web pages on the servers and review the log files that are created by the usage of these servers.

PRESENTER BIO
Mr. Glenn A. Lewis is a Computer Training Specialist in the Training Services department of SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, where he provides training to local, state and federal criminal justice agencies on computer technology issues with criminal justice applications at the SEARCH National Criminal Justice Computer Laboratory and Training Center in Sacramento, California, as well as at other locations nationwide. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Forensic Computer Investigation certificate program at the University of New Haven, Connecticut. He is also a certified instructor through the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training’s (POST) Robert J. Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation and is certified by the State of California as a Computer/White-Collar Crime Investigator.
Mr. Lewis specializes in online child exploitation and computer crime courses.
Mr. Lewis’s background includes 16 years as a Deputy Sheriff with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as a Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Investigator and Personal Computer Specialist. He has also served as an instructor at Sierra College in Rocklin, California, in Adult Education in Elk Grove, California and for Basic Police Academy and Advanced Officer courses. He was also with Kroll Associates, Inc., where he conducted computer forensic examinations, network security audits and network intrusion investigations.
Mr. Lewis has degrees in Criminal Justice, Business Administration and Computer Science. He also has an A+ certification as a Computer Service Technician and is also N+ certified. He is a life member of the Northern California Peace Officers Association, charter member of the Law Enforcement Expert System Association and past president of the Northern California chapter of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association. In July 1999, POST awarded Mr. Lewis with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Peace Officer Training, an honor that recognizes “significant or extraordinary contribution to public law enforcement training.”
