1:00pm – 2:30pm
Presenter: John B. Warnick
PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
What is it like to live with the shame and guilt of being the male victim of
a sexual crime perpetrated by an adult you trusted and admired? What
emotional scars haunt you when you dare tell no one that this adult everyone
idolizes as the best youth soccer coach and an outstanding role model for
young boys has stripped you of your innocence? When that buried secret stops
you from attaining a lifelong goal and leads you to professional help, how
do you deal with the frightening truth that unless you inform the police
this sexual predator will harm more innocent boys? What gives you the
courage to not only share the truth with the district attorney, police and
FBI, but to also willingly participate in a unique "sting" operation that
will crack a nationwide child porn internet network? How do you deal with
the fact your privacy is lost in a swirl of newspaper headlines and
sensational TV highlights? "Surviving Sexual Molestation" is the odyssey of
John Warnick’s heroic but difficult trek to the satisfying peace of helping
others overcome the plague of sexual assault.
PRESENTER BIO
John B. Warnick
was born March 12, 1979 in Casper, Wyoming, the only son and second child of
two lawyers, John A. and Carol Warnick. As John grew from an active toddler
to an energetic young boy, he excelled at swimming and tennis lessons,
T-ball, and eventually youth soccer. By the time he turned eleven, John was
carrying a secret he didn’t share with anyone; he had been sexually molested
by a soccer coach he idolized and trusted. For the next nine years, John
would bury that secret.
During that time, he won the State History Day Competition five out of six
times, and finished as high as fourth at the national level. His senior
year, he and his doubles partner went the entire season undefeated only to
suffer the disappointment of losing in the championship round at the state
tennis tournament. Despite his successes, John could never shake the secret
that haunted him until he found the courage and faith to seek and confront
the molester.
Today, John shares with law enforcement agencies, school administrators,
youth counselors, and concerned adults the incredible story of how his
decision to go to the police and district attorney, led him to participate
in a sting operation that attacked a nationwide child porn network. When he
isn’t speaking or playing hockey, John is pursuing an electrical engineering
degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. John was recently married
to the love of his life, Amy, in August 2002. They continue to enjoy a happy
and successful marriage.
